My favorite place I’ve travelled in the United States is the Pacific Northwest. It’s easy to love, with its larger than life foliage, stunning mountains, and cliffside views of the ocean! So naturally, I loved photographing this destination Kiana Lodge wedding in Poulsbo, Washington. This exclusive water-front wedding venue and resort features beautiful indoor and outdoor spaces!
Let’s start before the wedding. Both the bridal suite and the groom’s suite are immaculate and offer plenty of moody light— super important for their getting ready photos. Anna and Jared are both also very laid back, and trusted their venue day of coordinator fully. This was great! The Kiana Lodge wedding team is kind and really reliable. I know Anna and Jared will never regret having their wedding there. The experience of ease throughout their day will definitely stick in their mind for years to come! And it’s stuck in mine too.
Like all my couples, I know you want to enjoy and be present on your wedding day.
You don’t want to be stressing over planning details and wrangling people together.
Or missing special moments!
So, I can’t stress this enough: Have an awesome wedding planner or venue coordinator for the day of your wedding. Oh, and a super experienced photographer you can fully trust, and who matches your personality!
Now, their first look was just outside the venue lodge, and Jared was so excited to see Anna! I always like to ask whoever is waiting for the first look a few questions about their relationship while the partner gets in place. And it’s always precious to see the sentiment creep in behind their eyes. Before they’ve had the chance to finally lay eyes on the other for the first time that day, a few even get little misty.
This destination wedding was no exception! We rolled right into their couple’s portraits from the first look, taking photos at the nearby dock and then in front of a huge piece of driftwood nearby. We also had a little extra time after for some extra photos (which Anna was super excited about)! Naturally we decided to take the quick walk around to the other side of the lodge for some more intimate photos in the fern forest. I gave Anna and Jared their space as they walked together and enjoyed the peace and silence before the ceremony.
One more thing to note, for those who aren’t familiar. Jared and his family are Jewish, so right before the ceremony Anna and Jared had a private, family only Ketuba signing. Traditionally the Ketuba is a Jewish prenuptial agreement designed to protect the bride, though it has since evolved to more equally represent modern marriages today. Their ceremony and vows were also under a Chuppa (traditional Jewish alter), and they did the breaking of the glass together. This ceremony was full of laughter and tears, with a stunningly massive weeping willow behind them! It was beautiful.
Of course, you probably want to see the photos we took for their wedding!
