Hey Bad-ass babes! Today we’re going to get a little personal… I’m going to share some thoughts with you about self love and my own journey, before I became an Oahu and Savannah Boudoir Photographer.
And I’ll start by telling you this: Boudoir photography changed my life.
I’ll be honest with you, I haven’t always been confident. Actually, because of my upbringing, I was ashamed of my body. I often actually felt that I needed to quiet myself, and remain unseen.
I’m sure you can imagine how destructive that is for a person’s self esteem and mental state!
At 19 years old, I met Michael Ash Smith, a photographer who was based in Pennsylvania at the time (though he and his family are now in Colorado). And I’ll be honest, a boudoir session with this man changed my life.
It was the first time I felt safe to be myself, and it was the first time I felt seen (and in a non-creepy way!). He was the first person who told me, in that vulnerable state, that I was beautiful. That my laugh was sexy. And I should let loose more!
The best part was, the feeling lingered well past the photo session itself. It lasted for weeks, and reignited when I saw the photos of myself! Actually, I think I fell in love in that moment. I fell in love with myself, just a little bit, for the first time.
And that’s always how it is….Falling in love with yourself is rarely a head-over heels affair. Its a long, slow process of forgiveness, acceptance, celebration, and small victories. Over time, as you practice the mindset of love, you fall for yourself a little bit at a time.
You give yourself more permission to say that thought or idea, to wear that outfit (you know which one I’m talking about), or heck… for me it was permission to love and enjoy food again! I began to feed my body what it needed for health, and I wasn’t restricting anymore. This may still be my longest personal battle, but it started years ago!
After that photo session, I’ve held a deep desire to help other women experience the same freedom and acceptance I have discovered! And today, as a Savannah Boudoir Photographer and Oahu Boudoir Photographer, I’ve been able join countless women on their journey of liberation and self love!
**(p.s. I’m using “women” as an inclusive term, to include femme, queer, trans, etc. Literally, if you’re a woman or relate to the female energy, this is for you)
Its not something I expected, but I was hooked. Showing women their own worth and beauty is rewarding, and honestly, we have SO much fun during my sessions. Because Michael was right, laughing is sexy. Being yourself is sexy. You don’t have to hide who you are!

Let’s kick fear in the butt together!
Did you scream a little inside while you were looking at these?! I do, often times out loud, every time I edit my bad-ass babes boudoir photos. Because it takes guts! It takes putting yourself out there. Boudoir is unlike any other self-love routine I know, but I’ve never had a client or friend regret it!
“Ok, yes Janelle… but I’m sot sure I’m ready to try an empowering boudoir session.”
I completely get that! I’ve been paralyzed by fear before. But I’d like to share some truth with you. Each and every one of us, as humans, has something special to offer the world. Each one of us has a unique story, big dreams, and un-met desires. I know that deep down, we CRAVE freedom!
People weren’t made to feel trapped, and women should never feel less than worthy. It’s been too long that we’ve been oppressed and silenced! As a woman who has struggled with this her whole life, I KNOW that it’s time to unleash our wild side.
Whether you are a female by gender, femme, trans, queer…. You deserve to be celebrated. And I firmly believe this with all my heart. Its basically my mission in life.
This is my goal whenever one of my ladies has an empowering boudoir session with me. I’m aiming to show your truth! I want to show your adventurous side. I want to empower you and increase your confidence and self trust. Because its finally time to celebrate YOU! And trust me, you are so worth celebrating.
I’ll say it again. As your Adventurous Savannah and Oahu boudoir photographer, I know beyond a shadow of doubt that you can be fearless! I want to help you get there! You can be your best self, and I’ll facilitate a safe environment for you to blossom into confidence! Every step of the way, know that I’m here for you through this journey of #selflove.
