A Mexico Wedding Photographer?! Yes, you heard me right! I’ve finally made the jump and moved to Mexico. Meaning I’m now a wedding photographer in the beautiful and diverse country of Mexico.

I’ve actually been visiting Mexico for years, and have even posted about my travels in the past (check out my favorite shared itinerary here). So when I finally started feeling the pull to make a move from Atlanta, I took a 3 month long “trip” (face masks included, of course) to explore Mexico more deeply.

Now, I’ve finally made the move and live here in the Riviera Nayarit. It has been such a joy to see what this beautiful country has to offer! Beyond just the vacation visits and stays I’ve previously experienced, there is so much landscape and culture in each Mexican state… I’ve realized that Mexico is the PERFECT wedding destination. Let me share with you why.

I’m so excited to share with you what I love the most about being a Mexico Wedding Photographer!

There are three regions in Mexico that I’ve really explored and researched to share with you today. Each one is so gorgeously unique! And each one offers something special for your wedding or elopement that I (personally) don’t feel you can find elsewhere. I’ve been photographing weddings for over 12 years now… trust me on this one. Mexico is amazing.

Between these three regions in Mexico you have: Mountains, beaches, jungles, Mayan Ruins, and gorgeous cultural cities filled with European flair! Oh, and did I mention beautiful music, TACOS, and a warm community of ecologically conscious people? Seriously, that’s what got me first.

What more could you want for your wedding?

So, where should I have my Mexico wedding or elopement?

Yes, let’s chat about the good stuff!

First, we’re going to talk about the most popular region in Mexico for your wedding or elopement: Tulum, in the Riviera Maya. Then I want to share with you a rising gem for your Mexican destination wedding: San Miguel de Allende. Seriously, as a Mexico wedding photographer, it’s quickly rising to the top of my list. Finally, I’ll finish by sharing with you Mexico’s best kept wedding and elopement secret: San Pancho (aka: San Fransisco), in the Riviera Nayarit!

Are you ready? Let’s get started!

Tulum and The Riviera Maya for your Mexico Destination Elopement or Wedding

Tulum is a gorgeous and hip (I’m a nerd for using this word, but I don’t care!) city in Mexico’s Riviera Maya, just south of Cancun, Mexico. Imagine white Caribbean coastlines, rivers winding through luscious jungle, and ancient Mayan ruins— yep. That’s the Riviera Maya for you.

In particular, I want to highlight the city of Tulum. It’s known for its super zen yoga retreats, the preserved ruins of an ancient Mayan port city, and some gorgeous wedding venues. So you can go classic for your ceremony and reception with white beaches and stunning river resorts nestled on the jungle’s edge… Or you can actually choose to have your small destination wedding or elopement ceremony in an ancient Mayan cenote! This is basically an “underground” spring-filled cave. I’ve never seen anything more unique or beautiful in my life.

If the special Mayan Cenote ceremony just made your heart flutter a little, check out the Hatsuts Cenote. Its perfect for an elopement or small wedding getaway!

San Miguel de Allende as your Spanish-inspired wedding destination in Mexico!

As a Mexico wedding photographer, I can absolutely say that San Miguel de Allende is Mexico’s rising star for your wedding or elopement! Its culturally rich, every corner of the town is luxuriously beautiful, and its very walk-able. Honestly, San Miguel de Allende is what I immediately imagine when I think of a wedding in Mexico. Think bright and warm colors, cobble stone roads, gorgeous haciendas, and maybe even a donkey or two!

Unsure of where to begin on your search for a destination wedding venue in San Miguel de Allende? Check out Casa Chorro! Its a 7 bedroom colonial home right in the center of the action. Big enough to stay and get ready, host your ceremony, and then celebrate with a fiesta for your reception!  Finally, Maye Cordova Event Design can help you get started on your planning process.

Yes, I’ve already done all the research for you!

Want to know more? I’m happy to help however I can. As your destination Mexico wedding photographer, I’m here to help you plan the wedding or elopement getaway of your dreams! Please reach out with any questions, and I’ll get you headed in the right direction.

San Pancho and the Riviera Nayarit is Mexico’s best kept elopement secret!

You may not have even heard of the Riviera Nayarit yet! But I promise you it’s Mexico’s best kept secret for your destination wedding or elopement. I would know, since this is actually where I chose to settle down and live!

The Riviera Nayarit is a quiet piece of mountainous jungles and long beach stretches. It’s also dominantly speckled with quaint beach towns. Sayulita is the most popular beach town, with San Pancho being much, much quieter and off the beaten path. There’s also a strong bohemian and ecologically conscious community here! So, if you’re looking to get away from the crowds, and have a quiet wedding getaway with private beaches, stunning venues, and genuinely friendly people— San Pancho or one of its surrounding towns is perfect for you.

My suggestion? Book your stay at the Hotel Maríi, and have your reception at their upstairs restaurant, Cafe Floresta! Your ceremony can be held in the jungle, or at one of our pristine private clay beaches.

Of course, you’ll need help from a local Mexico wedding photographer and wedding planner to get all those little details worked out. This area is still super under the radar, and very exclusive!
